after elisha had the heart operation and was well enough to be transferred back to scunthorpe it happened.... things went from good to great for about 3 weeks. the doctors were so happy with the time it took to heal and elisha was being dicharged in a few days time. but tragedy struck and elisha had a series of stopping breathing. nothing like a normal child but her body was not strong enought to breath for her. every time she took a breath in her wind pipe closed up.. so again we wnet back to leeds general infirmary for another op. this time to have a trachiostomy fitted. this op was no longer then 15 mins long and everything went well. after the trachiostomy was fitted i had to be trained up in how to clean it out as she could not cough properly and also how to change it. this was going to be a lengthy process as its a dangerous thing if not done carefully and quickly. whilst as leeds they performed alot of test as they could see her eyes were not focusing on anything and also because she wasnt responding to sound. this is when we found out she was blind and deaf and also quadroplegic. whilst elisha was in leeds i was traveling from leeds and scunthorpe every weekend as i needed clean clothes and also some resbite. what i found though was i was not getting the support i needed from my father and his partner so i made the decision to move to bristol where my mum and her family were. during the move i had to wait for elisha to be transferred from leeds general infirmary to bristol childrens hospital. this took 3 weeks and so i wnet three weeks with out seeing her. although i did ring every day and elisha was doing fine. on the day Elisha arrived at bristol everything was going smoothly she was on a normal ward and doing great. but about 2 weeks into her stay at BCH elisha's heart had stopped beating. thet revibe her and moved her to intensive care. on intensive care things took a turn for the worst. my little girl was loosing the fight. she could no longer breath for herself and was attached to a ventilater 24/7 and was on a high dose of pain killers. in march 2004 a meeting was called with all the doctors and nurses who were craing for elisha around the clock and i was told that she would have no quality of life and be confined to a chair and breathing apparatus. basically machines would be keeping her alive. this is not what i wanted for my baby and doctors gave me a choice. so in march 2004 i made the hardest decision anyone will ever have to make. march the 18th ELISHA'S CHRISTENING elisha was christened by her hospital bed at 1pm surrounded by her family. it was a beautiful ceremony and there wasnt a dry eye in the house. she looked beautiful in her dress and actually behaved herself hahahaha. but the smiles where short lived because we knew that on the 29th march little elisha jade was going to be coming home and taken off the machines. which happened. the nurse and doctor stayed that day until about 2pm when we had to kick them out as elisha was fighting. she had a day of no machines and felt the wind and sun on her face. had a bath with mummy and even a play on the carpet. by 11pm she was still with us. she had nanny and grandma and mummy with her. we dicided we were going to do the night in shifts. nanny took the firts shift and about 15 mins before mummys and grandmas, nanny called us down as it was time. Elisha Jade passed away in her mummy's arms and 3.15am 30th march 2004. it was peaceful and comforting to knnow that she was suffereing no more. but do you wanna hear the funny part.....................nanny was late feeding her and she waited to have a full belly. she always loved her feeds hahaha. thinking of you always, gone but never forgotten our LITTLE ANGEL ELISHA JADE CURTIS XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
